Honouring the Father of our Nation, whose birth anniversary falls on October 2, the Gandhi World Foundation conducted a rally at the Marina Beach on Sunday.
The rally was conducted under the theme ‘Walking a mile makes you smile’ and Nadai Noikku Thadai (Walking Defeats Disease), based on the ideals of Mahatma Gandhi, which propagate walking as the best way to make one stay away from all ailments
Gandhi World Foundation aims at spreading the message and teachings of Gandhiji and believes that the younger generation will have more inclination towards his teachings. “Gandhi’s philosophy that helped him to stay fit till his end was his walking habit. He made this his daily routine and gained a lot,” said a representative of the organisation.
Founder trustee ML Rajesh, managing trustee Vijayalakshmi Rajesh and trustee Shyam Sunder, along with more than 30 volunteers of the Gandhi World Foundation and about 50 school children from various schools and members of the public were part of the walk. V Kalyanam, Gandhi’s secretary from 1944-1948, inaugurated the rally. Film personalities S Ve Shekar, Ramesh Kanna and Ganeshkar, and senior advocate R Gandhi were also present.
