New Delhi: Dr SP Bayotra chairman of medicine at the reputed Ganga Ram hospital in New Delhi spoke to CNN-IBN about Ebola. "The patient has been diagnosed but it's new in our country. No chances should be taken. He should be quarantined till he is cleared as the virus can be transmitted through secretions," said Dr SP Bayotra.
"The passage for semen and urine is common. So it can be easily transmitted through urine or any kind of sexual contact. Though he has a certificate that he has been cured, but we can say this is the first case of Ebola," expalined Dr Bayotra.
Explaining it in detail SP Bayotra said, "Though virus can continue to stay for 90 days. He should be isolated for 90 days. No chances should be taken in a country big like ours. The government is already taking a lot of precaution. The screening of people is of paramount importance. No need to fear but truth is he's a potential carrier and all precautions should be taken."
According to government officials, a three member team has been constituted to inspect all airports to identify the gaps. It will include officials from the ministries of Health, Civil Aviation and Immigration. This team will submit a report to health minstry in a month about the preparedness. The health ministry has also asked for a detailed report on the working of surveillance facility at sea ports.
The Health Ministry officials will also constitute teams of experts who will visit the states and report on the preparedness of their designated hospitals. They have been asked to work together towards the capacity building of the states.
Training of the doctors and the para-medical staff in hospitals which have isolation wards would also be done in the coming days.
