New Delhi: The Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) has recommended the names of its general secretary Raj Singh and veteran Guru Jasram for the Dronacharya Award in the category of lifetime contribution in coaching.
"The federation has send two names for this award, including mine. I spent two decades with the national team. Many of my students have become champions at various international levels," said Raj Singh, who was the national coach from 1977 to 1997.
Raj was also designated the team leader of the Indian wrestling contingent at the London Olympics last year. Babita, Neha Rathi, Sunil Rana and Dharmendra Dalal have been recommended for the Arjuna Award this year.
The current national coach Vinod Kumar, who won the Dhyanchand award last year, has been nominated for the active Dronacharya award by the federation. Other nominees in the category are Jabar Singh and Jagmal.
