A woman Maoist of the district surrendered before Angul SP Narasingh Bhol here on Monday.
She has been identified as Budhuni Munda (17) alias Shanti of Nagira area under Pallahara sub-division, bordering Keonjhar district. She was an active member in Kalinga Nagar division of the CPI (Maoist) outfit headed by Sushil.
Informing this to mediapersons, Bhol said frustrated with Maoist ideology Budhuni surrendered.
“Pushed by poverty and lured into the Maoist fold by some ultras, she had joined the outfit in September 2010. She was involved in four incidents of violence that included an encounter at Tamka police station in Jajpur. She was active in Jajpur and Keonjhar areas,” the SP said.
He added that she would be rehabilitated as per the provisions of the surrender-cum-rehabilitation policy for the Maoists.
Budhuni said: “I felt suffocated in Maoist camps. I was provided nothing that was promised to me during my induction, hence, I decided to give up arms and join the mainstream.”
