TIRUPUR: A case has been registered against a village panchayat president and two other persons for bribing the voters with counterfeit currency, at Chinniampalayam in the district on Sunday.According to sources with the Kunnathur Police, Hemalatha contested for the post of village panchayat president at Chinniampalayam panchayat near Kunnathur, and got elected. During the election campaign, Hemalatha along with her husband Ravi and supporter Selvan reportedly bribed the voters at the A D Colony in Ganapathipalayam village. They allegedly gave an amount of `1,000 to each voter. Rangan (63) of the village got `3,000 — in `1,000 denomination — for all voters in his family. When he used one of the notes for buying some goods, the shop owner found that it was counterfeit currency and alerted him. When he inquired with his neighbour, they said they had a similar experience when they tried to spend the money. Angry villagers immediately lodged a complaint with the Kunnathur Police. Following investigations, the police registered a case. Uma and her mother Indira were declared elected. On Monday around 11 am, Thangapandi was on his way to his farm when Ganesan, a loser and his relatives waylaid him and hacked him to death. The Thiruchuzhi police have registered a case and are looking for the accused.
