Eating Water-rich Foods To Applying Sunscreen, Tips To Protect Yourself From Heat Waves
Water is important for hydration as sweating can dehydrate you in hot and humid weather. Dehydration can dry, flake, and even itch your skin.

Temperatures are expected to soar above normal levels now and the India Meteorological Department has raised an alert that India is likely to experience more heat waves between April and June. Therefore, everyone needs to take crucial measures to safeguard themselves from the adverse effects of heat waves. Here are a few tips that people need to follow to remain safe from the impending consequences of heat waves.

1. Use Sunscreen Daily– The heat of the sun and UV rays have a strong impact in the summer season which could damage the skin cells. This can result in several skin problems such as skin rashes, sunburns, acne, dark spots, wrinkles, etc. Applying sunscreen forms a layer that protects the skin from such rays.

2. Drink plenty of water– Water is important for summer skin hydration as sweating can dehydrate you in hot and humid weather. Dehydration can dry, flake, and even itch your skin. You can restore lost fluids and keep your skin moisturised by drinking sufficient water.

3. Moisturising the skin– Moisturising is an important part of the skincare routine in the summers and winters as well. From dryness to sunburns and everything in between, summers can take a toll on our delicate skin. That’s why moisturisation should be the topmost priority of your skincare this season.

4. Exfoliating the skin– Exfoliating is the process of removing dead skin cells from the surface of your skin using a chemical, granular substance, or exfoliation tool. Exfoliating regularly can help get rid of dead skin cells, sweat, and dirt that could potentially clog your pores.

5. Applying lip balm– Applying lip balm with 15 SPF (Sun Protection Factor) minutes before bracing out is also important. It should be reapplied every two hours or sooner if you eat, drink, or swim. Not doing it can prompt the UV rays to seep through into your skin and cause damage.

6. Clothing– People are advised to wear lightweight, light-coloured, loose, and porous cotton clothes. In addition to the clothes, people should wear protective goggles, a hat, shoes or chappals while going out in the sun.

7. Avoid going outside– Avoid travelling outside and performing strenuous activities when the outside temperature is high, especially between 10 AM and 04 PM.

8. Water-rich foods– A major portion of our body mass is made up of water so it is advisable to consume fruits and vegetables like cucumber, tomato, watermelon, strawberry, etc.
