Raksha Bandhan, a popular festival celebrating the bond between brothers and sisters, is observed on the full moon day, Purnima in the Hindu month of Shravana. This year, it will be celebrated on Monday, August 19.
Pandit Saurabh Mishra of Jagannath Temple said that after 90 years, this time four auspicious yogas are formed on Raksha Bandhan. Tying a rakhi is considered very auspicious. According to the Vedic calendar, a grand coincidence of Sarvarth Siddhi Yoga, Ravi Yoga, Shobhan Yoga and Shravan Nakshatra is formed on the day of Raksha Bandhan. This, in itself, is special. Hence, this day is considered very auspicious.
Pandit Saurabh Mishra also shared that the rakhi that a sister ties on her brother’s wrist is not just a rakhi but a raksha sutra. It protects the brother from any misfortune. Hence, tying this thread during Bhadra Kaal is considered inauspicious. Hence, tie a raksha sutra on your brother’s wrist after 1 pm. Sarvartha and Ravi Yoga are formed in the process. This time, Raksha Bandhan is celebrated on August 19. Bhadra Kaal occurs on the night of August 18. You can tie Rakhi on August 19 from 1 pm to 8 pm. Make sure you tie a raw Rakhi. It is pure.
Raksha Bandhan symbolises the protective bond between siblings. Sisters tie a rakhi (sacred thread) around their brothers’ wrists, as a sign of love and protection. In return, brothers pledge to protect their sisters and often give them gifts or money. The festival strengthens family bonds and celebrates the spirit of togetherness and commitment.
