As weird as it may sound, it’s true. This day is called the World Naked Gardening Day which is commemorated annually on the first Saturday of May. This year the day will be celebrated on May 4. The day aims to bring acceptance towards our natural body and to help people to feel liberated. While it may seem obscene to many, to nudist horticulturists, it’s a chance to be one with nature in our pure form.
History and Significance
- The World Naked Gardening Day celebrates the human body in its natural form. This day provides a chance to connect with nature in its purest form.
- This day was formed by Mark Storey (Consulting editor for Nude and Natural Magazine), and Jacob Gabriel (A Permaculturalist).
- This day was first celebrated on September 10, 2005. However, the date to celebrate this day was shifted to the first Saturday of May in 2007.
- This day is recognised by the American Association of Nude Recreation (AANR), ClothesFree International, and The Naturist Society (TNS) among other organisations.
- To celebrate this day, people participate in naked gardening at public parks or at their private places.
- World Naked Gardening Day is meant to normalise body variations and de-sexualize the human body.
- In Canada the day is celebrated on the first Saturday of every June as Naked Canada Gardening Day, and in New Zealand, it is commemorated on the first Saturday of every October.
- World Naked Gardening Day promotes the idea of self-love and body positivity.
- On this day, people plant new flowers, trim hedges, and also remove weeds from the ground all naked.
