England’s Barmy Army’s cheeky dig at Virat Kohli after the star Indian batter was dismissed for a 9-ball duck against England in the ICC World Cup 2023 contest in Lucknow did not age well on social media. Barmy Army, the official fan group of England cricket team, put out a tweet with Kohli’s face superimposed on a duck and needless to say, the morphed pic went viral in no time on microblogging site ‘X’.
“The caption read: Just out for a morning walk.”
After England restricted India to 229/9 in their designated 50 overs, the morale among the desi camp was rather low. However, Indian spearheads Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami turned the match on its head and rose to the occasion once again, this time absolutely annihilating the England’s top-order batters, dismissing them one after another.

Unfortunately for the Barmy Army, there were two ducks sitting in the England clan and they were the biggies. The stalwarts Joe Root and Ben Stokes.

Bumrah trapped Root in front of the stumps with a deathly yorker. Umpire adjudged Root out who swiftly went upstairs but DRS confirmed that the batter was a gonner. England’s scorecard read 30/2 in 5 overs.
Next, Stokes was undone by Shami. The Indian pacer, bowling his second over, darted one straight into the stumps and the star all-rounder, looking to whack it, missed it completely. The stumps were broken. England were 33/3 in 8 overs.

Interestingly, this was Virat Kohli’s first-ever duck in an one-day international Cricket World Cup.
Kohli has 354 runs to his name in the ongoing tournament in India. The 34-year-old star batter has 3 fifties and 1 ton to his name and is amongst the leading run scorers in ICC World Cup 2023 at the time of writing this.
