Former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav will lead his party’s first ‘Kisan mahapanchayat’ in Aligarh on Friday. Preparations for the event were ready by Thursday.
The Samajwadi Party has started an outreach programme against the new far reform laws as it looks to strengthen its ground support in UP ahead of the 2022 state assembly polls. The Kisan mahapanchayat in Aligarh’s Tappal is one of its programmes.
Earlier, Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has addressed such mahapanchayat for farmers in various parts of western UP.
The SP supremo will reach the Tappal Interchange around 1.30pm to address the farmers for about one and a half hours. He will then take the expressway to reach Lucknow.
“Former CM and our party chief Akhilesh Yadav is coming to Aligarh to address the mahapanchayat of farmers for the first time in the state in support of farmers. Farmers across the country are opposing the three new agricultural laws imposed by the Modi government. The SP is standing with every farmer. Farmers do not have any religion or caste. A farmer is a farmer. All preparations for the mahapanchayat have been completed. Arrangements for stage, chair, sound, parking etc. have been finalised with the entire team,” SP district president Girish Yadav told media.
At the mahapanchayat, the former chief minister will honour the farmers. A seating arrangement of about 20 thousand farmers has been made for the event. Senior leaders, including Ramji Lal Suman, Sanjay Lather, MLC Udayveer Singh, are among the other leaders expected to be a part of the mahapanchayat.
Two stages have been set, one for the former CM and another for other local leaders. The main stage, where the former CM will address from, is approximately 60×30 feet with a seating arrangement for 150 people. The second stage is about 30×18 feet in size.
A VIP lounge will be built near the main stage, where catering and toilet facilities will be available. On one side of the pandal, an arrangement has been made for around 250 women to sit.
