Al Pacino has kept his Shrek phone case close. Yes, you read that right. Al Pacino, legendary actor and Hollywood icon, is proudly rocking a Shrek phone case and he’s not giving it up anytime soon. During an interview with BBC News, while promoting his memoir Sonny Boy, Pacino couldn’t help but laugh when asked about the case that’s been catching everyone’s eye. “Of all the things Al Pacino would have on his phone cover, I was not expecting Shrek,” BBC Correspondent Colin Paterson said. Pacino, 84, chuckled and replied, “Who would be expecting Shrek?” as he playfully showed off the case, which was tangled in his headphone wires.
When asked how the world’s most famous ogre ended up on his phone, Pacino revealed it was a gift from his daughter Olivia. She borrowed his phone and returned it with the new, very green addition. “When she came back, she had this on it,” Pacino said, gesturing to the Shrek case.
“She said, ‘It’s Shrek, dad!’ I said, ‘Shrek?’ Wow. Okay babe, I’ll hold onto it,” he added.
Fans on social media couldn’t get enough of the wholesome reveal, praising the actor for being “a man of culture” and calling it “wholesome as hell.” One fan commented, “Just knowing he walks around with a Shrek phone gives me life.”
Another fan hit the nail on the head: “Absolute legend. He doesn’t care what it was, it’s the fact that his daughter gave it to him, and he’s a proud father. He just made it legendary by being who he is.”
Oh, and in case anyone’s wondering—someone had to throw this out there—”Please let Al Pacino play a bad guy in Shrek 5,” a fan begged, pointing to the upcoming Shrek sequel. Because, let’s face it, who wouldn’t want to see Pacino in the Shrek Cinematic Universe?
Apparently, Pacino has been rocking this iconic phone case for over two years. Fans first spotted it when he was hanging out with Jason Momoa in April 2022, and, unsurprisingly, the internet went wild, reports People.
In fact, Al Pacino didn’t even realise the case’s viral fame until social media brought it to his attention. “I didn’t even look at it until social media told me what was on my phone, and I took a look and said, ‘That’s Shrek,’ ” Pacino said during an appearance on the Today show in June 2022.
