After meeting on the set of their HBO show Euphoria, Hunter Schafer and Dominic Fike dated for a year between 2022 and 2023 before calling it quits in July last year. The two remained silent about the reason behind their separation until now. A year after breaking up with her Euphoria co-star, the Hunger Games actress has revealed that “infidelity” was the reason they parted ways.

Speaking on the recent episode of the Call Her Daddy podcast, Hunter Schafer shared how she got cheated on by Dominic, something that changed her as a person. Noting that Dominic was the first cis, straight-identifying man she’d ever date, Schafer admitted blaming herself initially after she found out about his infidelity.
“Part of why the relationship ended is because I got cheated on for the first time. It’s part of my truth, but that fundamentally changed me as a person. As a trans woman, I am with a man who has never dated that type of person before. Because of the way I’ve been socialized as a trans woman, it’s been this crux in my life of how life has been so hard sometimes,” she said.

It was later that she realised that the situation had “everything to do with that person” and all the pain that he was dealing with. “You always know. Because I knew, I went to the phone—which I’m not proud of,” she added, further confirming that she looked through her partner’s phone for evidence after early suspicion.
This is not the first time that the actress has spoken about her ex-relationship. Earlier this year, Schafer, in an interview with GQ, reflected on what she learned. “I had built up a wall that was way too thick around them. And then I fell in love. I had a really beautiful relationship—it really opened me up in that way. I got to exorcize a lot of the breakup feelings that I was going through. I’m still, in some ways, healing from the last thing. I want to make sure I’m good all the way before I jump into something else,” she said.
