Actor Son Suk Goo has recently founded his own production company, diverging from the prevailing trend among male actors who commonly establish solo agencies. An insider in the advertising industry disclosed on February 5th that Son, opting for a production company, had officially registered his business earlier this year and is gearing up for production ventures. The newly established company, named Stature Inc., is reportedly a collaboration with the former financial director from his previous agency, SBD Entertainment. Situated in Samsung-dong, Gangnam District, Seoul, the company completed its business registration on January 2nd.
Son’s decision to initiate a production company is driven by his deep interest in film and drama content. Over the past year, he has been engaging with various writers and directors, laying the groundwork for multiple projects. Allkpop quoted an industry insider saying, “Son Suk Goo is an actor who not only has a strong interest in acting but also in content,” indicating that Son is contemplating various aspects of production.
After parting ways with SBD Entertainment last year, Son emerged as a highly anticipated free agent in the entertainment industry. Speculation surrounded whether he would establish his own agency, but instead, Son has chosen to adopt an agent concept. Under this arrangement, a manager from his former agency is overseeing his management activities.
“Having spent an extended period abroad, Son has carefully considered management structures and concluded that the Son Suk Goo brand is now well-established. Rather than actively pursuing projects, numerous opportunities are coming to him. Opting to collaborate with a trusted manager under an agent contract appears to be a strategic move, allowing him to sustain an active acting career without the burdens of operating a solo agency,” reports Allkpop.
On his work front, 2024 promises to be a bustling year for Son Suk Goo with the release of the Netflix original A Killer Paradox on March 9th this year. In this thriller, he shares the screen with Choi Woo-shik and Lee Hee-joon. The story revolves around an ordinary man accidentally turning into a murderer and the detectives trying to find him.
Son Suk Goo, 40, acts in theatre, television, and film, while also contributing as an art director and short film director.
He initially secured minor roles in theatre productions and gradually progressed to obtaining lead roles in independent films. In 2014, he expanded his creative portfolio, assuming the roles of art director and stage actor. He ventured into dramas in 2017 when he was recruited for Netflix’s second season of Sense8. Subsequently, in 2021, he made his directorial debut, directing a segment of the anthology film Unframed: Rebroadcast.
