The directorial comeback of Aishwarya Rajinikanth after nine years resulted in Lal Salaam. The sports drama, released in the theatres in February, is heading for its OTT debut. Initially, the film was supposed to start streaming on the OTT platform in March, but due to unknown reasons, it was never released. Now, reports claim that finally the film is all set to mark its debut on the streaming platform.
Lal Salaam is directed by Aishwarya Rajinikanth. Upon its release, the film earned Rs 36 crore. Despite the involvement of her megastar and father, Rajinikanth, the film had an underwhelming performance at the box office. The film was released on February 9 and featured AR Rahman’s music. As per reports, the film was made on a budget of Rs 80-90 crore.
Initially, the film was supposed to release on an OTT platform on March 8. There were reports that Netflix had bought the digital streaming rights for the film, while Sun TV acquired the satellite rights. The latest reports suggest that the film might make a grand debut on Sun NXT on September 20.
Lal Salaam is reportedly inspired by real-life incidents that happened in Tamil Nadu. It delves into the themes of social justice, politics and the challenges people face against systemic oppression. Filmmaker Aishwarya Rajinikanth worked alongside journalist Vishnu Rangasamy to prepare the screenplay. It showcases communal harmony among individuals hailing from diverse religious backgrounds. Almost every character is deeply engaged in a struggle for their rights.
The story is centred around Thirunavukarasu ‘Thiru’ and Shamsuddin, two brilliant cricket players from different religious backgrounds. They hail from a village where various communities live in harmony. When a local politician stirs communal tension to win elections, the peace in the village is threatened. Eventually, the cricketers can reinstate peace in their village.
It will be interesting to note how the audience reacts to the film after it is released on the OTT.
