Actor Siddique, predominantly known for his key roles in the Malayalam films, is currently in the headlines. His autobiography Abhinayamariyathe was unveiled recently at an event in Kochi by his family and friends from the film industry. Actor Mammootty was to be present at the book launch ceremony, but he remained absent. Siddique revealed the reason behind Mammootty’s absence. He said that Mammootty was supposed to arrive at the event, but he could not reach on time due to his unplanned stay at a shooting location. Siddique said that his experiences in life and cinema have been incorporated into an autobiography. Lipi Publications has published this book. Director Viji Thampi, actor Harisree Ashokan, Jayan Cherthala and Vinu Mohan from the film industry participated in the event.
Apart from being an actor, Siddique is also the general secretary of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists. He recently spoke about the Justice Hema Committee Report at a press conference. The 233-page report by a three-member committee headed by retired justice K Hema provides a damning indictment of the discrimination and exploitation faced by women in the Malayalam film. Siddique spoke about the importance of this report, welcomed it, and asserted that the law should take its course to provide justice to the survivors.
The AMMA general secretary reiterated that the report isn’t against the association. According to him, it was a study taken to understand the problems faced by its members. He also dismissed speculations about the presence of an all-powerful ‘mafia’ or a ‘power group’ that dictates what happens in Malayalam cinema. “There was a high power committee that was put together a decade ago with representatives of all film-related associations in the state. We are not sure if that is what has been mentioned,” said Siddique, who reasoned that in all his years in cinema, he had never seen such a power group. The AMMA general secretary was joined by executive committee members Vinu Mohan, Jayan Cherthala, Jomol, and Ananya at the press meeting.
Siddique last acted in the film Nunakuzhi.
