MS Dhoni Biopic May be the Biggest Risk of Sushant Singh Rajput's Career
We all know Dhoni is one of the best finishers in the world, but will Sushant be equally lucky?

MS Dhoni: The Untold Story is all set to release this Friday and Sushant Singh Rajput is ready to bring the persona of Captain cool, on-screen. One of the finest captains that Indian Cricket has seen, the life of Dhoni has mostly been an open book. Be it his miraculous journey from a railway station to the pitch or his marriage and personal life - a lot has been discussed about this Ranchi boy. So, bringing the aspect of 'unknown’ might be the biggest challenge for the film’s makers.

As for Sushant, the actor has proved his prowess by taking up selective, quality roles rather than running for 'what’s trending’. He started with a promising Kai Po Che and went on to become Bengal’s popular fictional detective Byomkesh Bakshi. Hailing from Patna it might have been easy for Rajput to pick up Dhoni’s nuances, but coloring a living legend's life in reel is a different story and comes with immense pressure.

It is always difficult to tell a story which can’t have an end. In biopics made on legends, who are still working in their respective fields and have no yet put a full stop professionally.Such films have their own repercussions. Their image is still under scrutiny, their every move is still being watched, so the golden picture that biopics mostly try to paint can become rusted giving a shelf life to the film. While Priyanka Chopra pulled it off in Mary Kom, Sushant has an added pressure because he’s playing a role that is a huge part of this nation’s religion 'Cricket’.

In an interview given to CNN-News18’s Rajeev Masand, director Neeraj Pandey has clarified that they have stayed away from the controversial part of Dhoni’s life. This might be a problem because those are the aspects fans are mostly eager to know about . Dhoni’s sudden retirement from Test cricket, his cold war with Gautam Gambhir and Virendra Sehwag, his selection choices and his role in CSK fixing scandal are things that have been discussed in hush tones. If you have completely turned your back towards this huge aspect of his life, then it will be right to say that your film might just be another propaganda to promote Dhoni’s certain image.

In a short career span, Sushant has been quite 'picky' regarding his role. This has certainly helped him emerge as an actor, but when compared to his contemporaries Varun Dhawan, Sidharth Malhotra and Ranveer Singh, he still has to make a global fan base. Being an actor in mainstream cinema is hard, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Irrfan Khan are the perfect example. Both the actors don’t miss out on films like Manjhi or Madaari, but never hesitate to pick a Kick or Jazbaa, once in a while. Now we can’t expect Sushant to do a PK every time, but he stands at a crucial juncture at this moment. With this biopic, either he will change the way mainstream young superstars are perceived by the industry and the audience or will lose himself in this ever running fight between quality vs stardom.

MS Dhoni: The Untold Story might be the biggest risk taken by Sushant in his career. It’s like the crucial over's last ball, where, if it hits the boundary it’s a win but there is a huge danger of getting caught before the line. We all know Dhoni is one of the best finishers in the world, but will Sushant be equally lucky? All questions will be answered this week, when SSR will bring his innocent charm to play India's most loved cricket captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni.
