To honour the legacy of the King of Gazals, Late Jagjit Singh, a prominent square in Bandra, Mumbai has been named after him.

The junction of KC Marg and Bandra Reclamation has been renamed to “Padma Bhushan Jagjit Singh Chowk”. The installation and renaming ceremony was officiated by Shiv Sena President Uddhav Thackeray in the presence of Mayor Snehal Ambekar.

The occasion was attended by the late singer's wife Chitra Singh, Armaan Chowdhury and top government dignitaries.

Fondly called 'King of Ghazals' Jagjit Singh was famous for his deep melodious voice, soulful lyrics and for making the otherwise esoteric form of music accessible to listeners from all walks of life.

In a career spanning more than 5 decades, he lent his voice to a plethora of songs and ghazals. His albums ' The Unforgettable' and 'The Independent' are groundbreaking works in Indian music. He also composed music for many movies including Prem Geet, Arth and Saath - Saath.

For his contributions to music and art, Late Jagjit Singh has been conferred with many prestigious awards like Padma Bhushan Award, Rajasthan Ratna Award, Sahitya Academy Award awards and multiple films and television awards.

Jagjit Singh is one of the most successful Ghazal composers and musicians in showbiz and this chowk further cements his legacy.
