In a candid interview with CNBC, Rupali Ganguly shared her struggles, recalling how people felt sorry for her when she began working in television to pay hospital bills. Today, she is one of the highest-paid actresses in the industry, thanks to her role in Anupamaa. In a recent interview, Rupali Ganguly discussed her early days of struggle, taking on any project to support her family and pay her father’s hospital bills. She remembered facing criticism, especially from the Bengali community, for her decision to work in television.
The actress said, “Television was again, struggling days. I had to run home, so whatever work came along, I took it. It was looked down upon, especially in the Bengali community. So, you’re kind of an outcast.” The popular actress also noted that despite facing criticism for her work, she remained unfazed and continued working to support her family, considering it a non-issue.
She thanked her father, filmmaker Anil Ganguly, for not using his connections to help her. She believes her success is solely the result of her hard work and struggle, starting from scratch without any internal support. The Anupamaa actress admitted she had never been ambitious. However, she was determined not to have her father treated at a municipal hospital, but rather at a well-equipped one like Lilavati. To make this happen, she had to work even harder.
She spoke about the respect she and her brother have for money, saying both she and her brother value the income they receive. “I think me, even my brother, there’s so much respect for whatever little we get that we want to make the maximum out of it. I would do anything for my papa; he is my inspiration, he is my god, and he still is, of course,” she said.
Rupali Ganguly became famous for her role in Sarabhai vs Sarabhai as Monisha, the daughter-in-law of Maya Sarabhai, played by Ratna Pathak Shah.
