Thalapathy Vijay’s Greatest Of All Time, or simply GOAT, has made a notable splash at the box office. According to reports, the film bagged Rs 170.75 crore in its first week. Despite the strong performance overall, the film has not lived up to expectations in the Telugu states.
As per reports, the Telugu dubbing rights for GOAT directed by Venkat Prabhu were reportedly sold for over Rs 16 crore in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. However, the film underperformed at the box office as per the expectation. According to a report by the Deccan Chronicle, Telugu distributors are said to be facing losses of about Rs 13 crore due to the film’s low performance at the box office. The film is said to have collected only Rs 2.5 crore in the initial days before its earnings dwindled, while it continues to thrive in Tamil Nadu and the USA.
The film was anticipated to be a huge success in Telugu markets, given Vijay’s growing popularity and previous successes. However, GOAT has not met expectations in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Despite Vijay’s strong track record in these states, his latest outing did not deliver the expected results, disappointing many who had high hopes for a major hit.
However, GOAT has performed well globally. Within six days, the film earned a net collection of Rs 162.75 crore and a worldwide gross of Rs 318 crore, yet it only made an estimated Rs 90 lakh in the Telugu region, as per Sacnilk.
Vijay plays double role in GOAT, which also stars Prashanth, Prabhu Deva, Mohan, Ajmal Ameer, Jayaram, Sneha, Laila, Meenakshi Chaudhary, Vaibhav, Yogi Babu, Premgi Amaren, Yugendran and VTV Ganesh in other pivotal roles. Yuvan Shankar Raja wrote the music, GOAT marks his second collaboration with Vijay since Pudhiya Geethai (2003) and tenth with Prabhu.
GOAT has turned out to be the fifth highest-grossing Indian film of 2024. The hype around the film was all the more due to the fact that it is Thalapathy Vijay’s second-last film before he quits cinema for a full-time political career. Earlier, there were reports that some integral portions of the film were left out at the editing table as it was getting too lengthy. Venkat Prabhu has recently revealed that when GOAT makes its OTT debut, the entire director’s cut may be available for streaming.
