Only on its premiere day, the re-release collected Rs 10 crore worldwide at the box office, as per the reports. And by Monday, the global collections were reported to have reached Rs 15 crore.

To the delight of Thalapathy Vijay’s fans, the south superstar’s 2004 hit Ghilli had a re-release on April 20. The film, upon its re-release, was received very well by the fans and the public, garnering record numbers on its premiere day. Consequently, the film is also minting great numbers at the box office. The Thalapathy Vijay and Trisha-starrer re-released in select theatres after 20 years of its original release.

The film was shown in 320 theatres in Tamil Nadu, becoming a hit in most regions, as per reports. On its first day of release, Ghilli collected a reported Rs 4.25 crore at the box office in the state. On its second day, Sunday, the film saw a slight drop in earnings with a collection of Rs 3.90 crore. On its third day, Monday, the film was reported to have collected Rs 1.70 crore. Until Monday, the film collected Rs 9.85 crore in Tamil Nadu, a very impressive amount for a re-release. On Tuesday, the film was able to make Rs 1.16 crore at the box office, taking the total to Rs 10 crore gross in the state alone. According to industry insiders, it is being considered as the highest gross for a re-released film. Furthermore, the distributors predict that the film’s collections are going to soar in the ongoing week. The figures are yet to arrive but the film is racing towards the Rs 20-crore club after its re-release.

Ghilli is directed by Dharani, who has also written its screenplay. The film stars Vijay and Trisha as the protagonists, along with Prakash Raj, Ashish Vidyarthi, Tanikella Bharani and many others. It is produced by A M Rathnam under the banner of Sri Surya Movies. The music in the film is composed by Vidyasagar, while the cinematographers were S Gopinath and K V Anand and the editing was done by B Lenin and V T Vijayan. Ghilli is the remake of Mahesh Babu starrer Telugu film titled Okkadu.
