The family of Tupac Shakur has decided to take legal action to investigate a possible link between the late American rapper’s tragic death in 1996 and Sean Diddy Combs, Billboard has reported. The family has hired New York attorney Alex Spiro to lead this investigation, which could potentially shed new light on the circumstances surrounding Tupac’s murder, nearly three decades later. Tupac Shakur, a celebrated and influential figure in the world of hip-hop, was only 25 years old when he was shot in a drive-by in Las Vegas in September 1996.
Despite efforts to save him, the rapper reportedly succumbed to his injuries six days later on September 13, 1996. The case remained unsolved for years until former gang leader Duane Keefe D Davis was arrested in September 2023 and charged with one count of murder with a deadly weapon in relation to the attack. Davis previously claimed that Sean Diddy Combs offered him $1 million (approx. 8.2 crores) to arrange the hit on Shakur, a claim that reignited interest in this decades-old case, informs Billboard.
This alleged connection between Tupac’s death and Diddy has resurfaced previously too.
In 2008, Diddy reportedly denied any involvement in Tupac’s murder, responding to a report from the Los Angeles Times that suggested his associates were behind the attack. “The story is a lie,” Diddy said at the time. “It is beyond ridiculous and completely false. I had any knowledge of any attack before, during or after it happened. I am shocked that the Los Angeles Times would be so irresponsible as to publish such a baseless and completely untrue story,” he added, informs Billboard.
Currently, Diddy’s legal troubles have extended beyond the allegations related to Tupac.
Federal prosecutors indicted Diddy last month on multiple serious charges, accusing him of being the leader of a massive criminal operation aimed at satisfying his “sexual gratification” for decades. Over the past year alone, 12 individuals have come forward and filed civil sexual abuse cases against Diddy, reports Rolling Stone.
These accusations have resulted in his arrest in September on charges, including racketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking and transportation to engage in prostitution.
With the investigation into Tupac’s death now taking a new turn, Shakur family’s decision to pursue the truth could lead to significant revelations in a case that has remained one of the most high-profile unsolved mysteries in the music world for nearly 30 years now.
