With Deepika Padukone and Ranbir Kapoor in the lead role, it wasn’t hard for the viewers to expect that their incredible onscreen chemistry will be one of the major strengths of the film. After their nearly flawless performance in 'Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani', 'Tamasha' was one of the most awaited films of the year. Here's why the film deserves to be watched.

Travel isn’t less important than characters: The movie has been being shot at Corsica (France), Simla, Delhi and Tokyo (Japan). Through the journey, the actors explore themselves. The film opens with a stage show. It has a strong concept of storytelling and is followed by Ranbir's fascination for stories. The movie travels to and fro from past and present and takes one to four place in over a couple of hours.

Belonging to a well-established Sahni in Simla, Ranbir has different dreams to pursue. As a carefree man, Ranbir visits Corsica where he meets Deepika and the duo promise to hide their real identities. They stay together for seven days and decide never to meet again.

Both return to their work and even after 4 years, Deepika finds it difficult to forget him. She shifts to Delhi and meets Ranbir by chance. Even though Deepika remains same, Delhi has certainly taken a toll on Ranbir. From being a man who would talk to mountains, Ranbir has become a machine man.

It was certainly the job of not his choice that has forced him to be so. And after Deepika rejects his proposal, he travels back to Simla to find the end of his story from the man whom he used to listen stories in his childhood.

The film has some beautiful shots capturing the beauty of the place. From the actors wandering in the streets of Corsica, exploring the place, sitting on a hill top during sunset to capturing quintessential elements of Simla and Delhi.

Viewers cry, flinch and cheer, courtesy Ranbir-Deepika: The way Ranbir portrayed emotional turbulence and his want for freedom and live in his world of stories truly showed his maturity in performance.

From the manner in which he throws books while studying engineering to how he shouts at his boss, every bit clearly shows his frustration and a pain deep inside in his heart. His portrayal of emotions after break up with Deepika and his attempt to get over it is yet another highlight.

But it was Deepika who did the talking with her eyes. From her falling in love with Ranbir in Corsica to her eyes searching for him everywhere even four years after, tells the tale of a besotted lover.

After spending just seven days with him at Corsica, Deepika gets to know the real Ranbir and even helps him explore his real self. When Deepika meets Ranbir after a long time, she realizes that he has become mechanised and she says, "'Yeh tum nahi ho Ved (Ranbir), yeh sab nakli hai'."

"'Main woh Don thodi na hu Tara (Deepika), woh toh acting thi na. Woh main ek role play kar raha tha aur yeh main real mein hoon'," replies Ranbir.

Rejecting Ranbir's proposal leaves a vacuum in her life and she tries to bring him back. The song 'Agar tum sath ho' showcases her emotions and her efforts to persuade him to return.

Even as perfect co-star, she is successful at giving much-needed space to Ranbir and yet leaves an impact with her performance.

On a high note: After effortless performance by Ranbir and Deepika, AR Rahman's music is like an icing on the cake. The songs have been put aptly and the music is certainly very soothing. From the first song 'Matargasti' which is peppy and compel anyone break into an impromptu gig to 'Agar tum sath ho' which is high on emotions – music keep the viewers engaged. It doesn’t distract the viewers, but seems to be a part of the plot.

Effective storytelling: The movie which is based in the concept of storytelling starts and ends with it. Ranbir who lives in his world of stories even makes his family realise their mistake through story. He doesn’t miss any opportunity to tell a story and says it with such an ease that listeners are captivated. The storyteller leaves a huge impact on him and he even goes to the extent of finding the end of his life story from the storyteller.
