Akhil Akkineni, the son of Nagarjuna and Amala, debuted as a child artist with the blockbuster 1995 film Sisindri. It was directed by Shiva Nageswara Rao and starred Nagarjuna and Akhil Akkineni in the lead roles. The film was the remake of the Hollywood film Baby’s Day Out.
It is said that the profit from the film was used to fund Blue Cross Hyderabad. It was established by Akhil’s mother Amala Akkineni for the welfare of animals. After its release, director Siva Nageswara Rao revealed that Akhil Akkineni suffered an injury on the sets of Sisindri. The situation was tense after the arrival of Nagarjuna and Amala at the location.
In an interview, director Siva Nageswara Rao shared the incident which happened years ago on the sets of Sisindri. Baby Akhil was pampered on the sets. He was only one year old and was present on the movie sets playing the lead role. The crew members took utmost care of the child while he was accompanied by his caretaker or mother, Amala.
Nagarjuna was busy shooting at another location. One day, while Akhil was sitting and playing on the sets the girl who came as a caretaker left for some work. There was a teapot lying around. During the game, the ball in Akhil’s hand rolled and went under it. The child did not notice this and fell on it.
There was no major accident but a small scratch near the eye. Although the injury was very minor, calls immediately went to Nagarjuna’s house. Even though Nagarjuna was shooting, the actor immediately left the set and reached the location. Amala came from home in another car.
The director told his assistant to not run away as everyone was aware of Nagarjuna’s temper. The danger of the movie shelf was also looming due to the minor injury to Akhil. Nagarjuna’s friend Satish accompanied the actor to cool the tense atmosphere. Nagarjuna and Amala did not say anything as nothing much happened. The director claims that if something serious had happened to Akhil, it was impossible to say what the situation would have been. The director thanked Nagarjuna’s friend for his presence.
