When Shah Rukh Khan Spoke About Ratan Tata's Passion for Business: 'Nano Was Brought Out...'
Shah Rukh Khan, in an old interview, said that he admires figures like Ratan Tata and Azim Premji for their passion and the values that guide their success.

Ratan Tata may no longer be with us, but the legendary industrialist and philanthropist leaves behind millions of admirers. Known not just for his business acumen but for his benevolence and humility, Tata’s legacy is one of compassion and generosity. His contributions to education and healthcare have impacted millions of lives, both in India and globally. Among his admirers is Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan, who once spoke highly of Tata.

In an old interview with Forbes India, SRK discussed his own approach to business, emphasising that while he doesn’t see himself as a businessman, he admires figures like Ratan Tata and Azim Premji for their passion and the values that guide their success.

Ratan Tata’s Passion for Business

Reflecting on business icons, Khan admired Ratan Tata’s passion for his ventures, particularly the Nano car, which was created with a clear, socially driven goal. “The reason Nano was brought out was with a very good thought. Will it work, will it not work? I don’t know. But the reason it was created for was very clear,” SRK stated, noting that for successful leaders like Tata and Premji, business is personal and driven by more than just profits.

SRK: Actor or Entrepreneur?

Shah Rukh Khan, despite dabbling in several business ventures, firmly identifies himself as an actor. “I pray to God that I never become a businessman. What turns me on is creating moments in front of the camera,” he said, adding that his entrepreneurial efforts stemmed from wanting to offer something he wasn’t getting at the time.

The Long Run Is Sustainable

Khan believes in the long-term sustainability of his projects, pointing out that while some of his businesses, like his VFX company, haven’t been immediate financial successes, they are investments in the future. “Like everyone told me my career was over when Baazigar released. My best well wishers told me my career is over, you can’t be a hero again after you’ve killed a woman. But it paid off. In the long run, everything is sustainable, if you stick to it,” he said.
