Those who have watched Anil Kapoor and Sridevi’s iconic film Mr India, would know that the film was way ahead of its time. The intriguing plot, depiction of the storyline, good direction and stellar acting skills of all the stars led the film to become iconic over the years. Recently, the director of the film Shekhar Kapur recalled a few anecdotes from the set. During a chat, he even revealed the unique idea to make a cockroach act during the iconic scene where Sridevi’s character starts running around her room as she gets chased by the insect.
Talking to the Daily Post, Shekhar admitted to taking an unconventional route along with cinematographer Baba Azmi for the cockroach scene. The director revealed that he and Azmi stepped in with the decision to pour some rum in front of the cockroach. He divulged, “Me and Baba Azmi, we were thinking how to get the cockroach to act? We thought let’s get a bottle of Old Monk rum… We poured a little bit in front of the cockroach… We thought it would drink and act (laughs). We actually felt like the cockroach had gotten drunk… Maybe the cockroach liked the old monk?”
Mr India featured acting stalwarts like Satish Kaushik, Amrish Puri and Annu Kapoor, among others apart from Anil Kapoor and Sridevi in the lead role. The film was produced by Boney Kapoor. In a surprise to the film’s fans, the producer recently shared that its sequel is currently at a pre-mature stage and is likely to happen soon.
In a candid conversation with Bollywood Hungama, Boney said, “It surely will come back. When it has to, it will. In Fact, recently, I was approached by a foreign studio/western studio. It could be a combination of Zee Studios, Boney Kapoor and that foreign studio. We could be collaborating. So, things are at a very premature level. I can’t talk much but it will happen. In the coming times, it will happen for sure.”
