X-Men 97 Episode 3: Origin Story Of This Marvel Character Revealed
X-Men 97 episode 3 shed light on the origin story of Jean Grey and her son Nathan Summers who was infected with the Techno-organic virus by the show’s main villain Mister Sinister.

Marvel lovers were in for a superhero treat when the much-anticipated animated series X-Men 97 premiered on Disney Plus on March 20. Out of the 10 episodes in Season 1, the first three have already been released. The third episode titled Fire Made Flesh which aired on March 27, especially grabbed the eyeballs of the masses. It shed light on the origin story of one of the most important Marvel characters — Jean Grey. It paved the way for viewers to realise that there was more to the powerful character than what was shown in the 2017 action-adventure film Dark Phoenix.

X-Men 97 episode 3 revealed that the villain Mister Sinister, created a clone of Jean Grey to replace the original Jean. After the clone discovered her true identity, she went into a rage, becoming The Goblin Queen. As the Queen, she started terrorising the X-Men squad with her nightmarish visions, pointing out the X-Men’s insecurities. Meanwhile, Mister Sinister was experimenting on Jean Grey and Scott Summers Cyclops’ newborn son Nathan aka Cable.

After a fight, although the real Jean Grey was able to put a stop to her malicious clone, it was too late. Mister Sinister already infected her son Nathan with the dangerous Techno-organic virus that had no cure. Jean’s Clone, who now called herself Madelyne Pryor, and her husband Scott were forced to go to Bishop with Nathan. The couple urged Bishop to take their son to the future for a cure for the Techno-virus.

As per Marvel Comics, after Nathan Summers goes to the future, he makes a comeback as Cable — a mutant soldier with the power of time travelling, leading X-Force’s very first incarnation. With the introduction of Jean Grey’s different character arcs, there comes a possibility that Marvel is looking to tell the tale of new adventures of Jean in the future.

Created by Beau DeMayo, X-Men 97 is the continuation of the 1992 X-Men: The Animated Series. The story revolves around a group of mutant superheroes who utilise their special powers to protect a world that fears and hates them. Challenged every step of the way, the squad faces an uncertain and unexpected future.
