Cillian Murphy is nominated for Best Actor at the Oscars 2024 for his performance in Oppenheimer. This is his first ever Academy Award nomination. While his fans are already predicting his win, Cillian confessed he is ‘kinda shocked’ by the nomination. In an interview with Variety, the actor revealed that he was at home in the Ireland with his parents and wife when the nomination was announced. Following the announcement, he enjoyed a cup of tea and cake with his family.
“Thankfully, I live in a time zone that I don’t have to get up at 5 a.m. It was already organized for me. We’ve had a few days off and I’ve been at home, which has been very, very pleasant. I’m actually in my parents’ house in Cork city. I was with my parents and my wife today. So that was really nice. We had a cup of tea and a slice of cake,” Murphy said, before revealing that his mother baked a sponge cake for him.
Speaking about the nomination, Murphy said, “Words don’t really do it justice. I think the superlatives fail you at this point. I’m so truly honored and kind of overwhelmed. But most of all, proud of the movie, and proud that it has achieved so much. It exceeded all of our expectations, any of any of us who are involved in making this movie.” He added, “To be recognized by the Academy like we have been, it’s just kind of mind-blowing.”
Murphy is nominated alongside Bradley Cooper for his work in Maestro, Colman Domingo for Rustin, Paul Giamatti for The Holdovers and Jeffrey Wright in American Fiction. Oppenheimer leads the nomination with 13 nods. These include Best Picture, Best Director, Best Supporting Actress, Best Supporting Actor, Best Writing, Best Cinematography, Best Costume Design, Best Makeup and Hairstyling, Best Original Score, Best Production Design, Best Film Editing and Best Sound.
