With Superman & Lois season 4 preparing to conclude the franchise this year, The Flash stands alone as the final Earth-Prime-based series in screenwriter Greg Berlanti’s superhero narrative. This unique position has sparked speculation about Gustin’s potential return and the future of the Arrowverse.
Gustin’s recent comments have added fuel to the already blazing fan theories. He revealed that he’s open to reprising his role as The Flash if summoned by none other than DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn for the new DC Universe.
Gustin recently fielded a fan’s query on TikTok, as reported by TVLine, about his willingness to don the red suit once more if Gunn came knocking. Gustin’s response was clear, “Yeah if James Gunn asked me to play The Flash, I would do it again. I trust James Gunn.”
The Flash’s future in the new DC Universe is a mystery as of now. While Ezra Miller, known for his roles in The Perks of Being a Wallflower and Justice League, recently starred in The Flash movie, this film was a pre-Gunn production and is not part of the new DCU, leaving the door wide open for Gustin’s potential return.
Last year, Gustin expressed his willingness to revisit the role of The Flash, noting that the character would always hold a special place in his heart. “I can’t wrap my head around it right now, obviously,” Gustin told ComicBook. He went on to say that if someone approached him with an exciting new idea for The Flash, he would be open to hearing it. Gustin emphasised that The Flash is a character that will likely be closely associated with him throughout his career, regardless of whether he continues to portray him. “So, I’ll always listen to any Flash pitch,” he added. “I mean, it’s very, very close to my heart. I think it always will be.”
