Gujarat Govt Signs MoU with Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders For Tourist Submarines to Dwarka
Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited has so far made 28 warships, ranging from advanced destroyers to missile boats

As per folklore, the city of Dwarka, where Lord Krishna resided, submerged under the ocean thousands of years ago. Ever since then, there has been no access to Lord Krishna’s city.

However, now the Bhupendra Patel-led Gujarat government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Mazagon Docks Ship Building yard to build tourist submarines for ferrying visitors to Lord Krishna’s Dwarka city.

These submarines — with the capability of going upto 100 feet under water — will take tourists to Dwarka city.

According to sources, an official announcement on the project will be made at the upcoming Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit (VGGS) which is scheduled to take place on January 10, 2024, at Gandhinagar.

Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited, which is a defence public sector undertaking, has so far made 28 warships, ranging from advanced destroyers to missile boats. It has also built seven submarines for Indian Navy.

“Yes, we have signed an MoU with Gujarat government, this is to make tourist submarines. But, right now the discussion with the government is at MoU stage. We are awaiting order from there to further decide on what kind of submarine we will have to make,” said Sanjeev Singhal, MD, Mazagon Docks Ship building yard.
