Star Indian middle-order batter Shreyas Iyer took the field for Mumbai on Tuesday (August 27) in the ongoing Buchi Babu Trophy match against TNCA XI at the Sri Ramakrishna College of Arts and Science cricket ground and bowled as well. In a video going viral on the internet, the 29-year-old cricketer can be seen rolling his arm in the 90th over of the TNCA XI’s first inning.
Iyer, who is not a regular bowler, copied his Kolkata Knight Riders teammate Sunil Narine’s bowling action, and the clip of his over is now going viral on the internet.

Iyer conceded seven runs in his only over of the first day’s play as TNCA XI finished at 294 runs for the loss of five wickets.
For the hosts, Pradosh Paul, captain Baba Indrajith, and Boopathi Vaishna Kumar scored 65, 61, and 63 runs, respectively.
Surya also in Mumbai’s XI
Sarfaraz Khan is leading Mumbai in the ongoing match against TNCA XI, and apart from Iyer, India’s T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav is also part of the playing XI. The 33-year-old right-handed batter who last played a Test match for India against Australia in Nagpur on February 9-13, 2023, on Monday had expressed his desire to earn a place in the Indian Test team.
“There are a lot of players who have worked hard to earn their place in the Test squad. Even I want to earn a place in that Test squad. After I made my debut for India in Tests, I got injured. A lot of players who got opportunities have done well. Those are the players who deserve the opportunity right now. Going forward, if I have to play, that is not in my control. What is in my control right now is to play this tournament (Buchi Babu), go on to play the Duleep Trophy, and then we will see what happens,” Surya was quoted as saying by Indian Express.
After playing in the Buchi Babu Trophy, Surya will represent India C in the Duleep Trophy 2024, which is set to start on September 5.
