Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Kapoor’s love story did not start at first sight. The actors met on the sets of their movies and over the years, they fell in love. Before Neetu, Rishi was in a serious relationship with a person named Yasmin. The late actor revealed details about the relationship in his memoir titled Khullam Khulla: Rishi Kapoor Uncensored, and also shared insights on how Neetu helped him during the phase.
In the book, as reported by The Indian Express, Rishi said he was deeply in love with Yasmin but their relationship took a toll after he shot to fame. Rishi admitted he wasn’t the same person that he was when Yasmin fell in love with. She eventually broke up with Rishi. At the time, Rishi was on an outdoor shoot for Zehreela Insaan with Neetu Kapoor.
Rishi revealed he would get drunk and urge Neetu to call Yasmin and pursue her to talk to the actor. “Immediately after our break-up, I had gone for an outdoor shoot for Zehreela Insaan, to Chitradurga in Karnataka, where I used to get drunk and make my co-star Neetu Singh (whom I later married) telephone Yasmin and try to cajole her into talking to me,” he wrote in the book.
“I met Yasmin on a few occasions after that, but by then I had come to terms with our break-up and handled myself with a lot more dignity. She later married a very dear friend of mine. Neetu was always very cordial with her and her untimely death a few years ago saddened me greatly,” Rishi added.
Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Kapoor eventually started dating and got married on January 22, 1980, and had two children. Riddhima Kapoor Sahni, 1980, and Ranbir Kapoor, 1982. Rishi passed away on April 30, 2020, after a two-year battle with leukemia.
