Woman Shares 'Love Mumbai' Post After Metro Saves Her Day, Gets Trolled For 'Showing Off' Normalcy
Goa woman praises Mumbai metro for saving her day, gets trolled for showing it off as an 'adventure' in viral post.

Mumbai’s public transport isn’t just a means to an end, serving hordes of people with a budget-friendly and turbo-speed commute. Whether it’s the auto rickshaws cruising with fair rates or the local trains, which become a lifeline for many, Mumbai’s transportation spectacle never ceases to amaze city visitors. However, when a spirited woman from Goa expressed her joy on social media, praising the Mumbai metro for saving her day, little did she know that her enthusiasm would become the target of online trolls who dismissed her experience as just another urban routine.

The incident unfolded when a user, @sameeracan, posted pictures of her friends dressed for a wedding inside the metro. Recounting how the metro rescued her from the risk of being late to a wedding function, Sameera shared, “Last week I was attending a wedding in Mumbai. We checked into the hotel, and checked the venue. Maps showed 30 minutes. Pretty close, I said in my mind. The event was at 7:30 PM, so we decided to leave by 7 PM. At 7 PM Google maps: Destination is 1 hour 30 mins away.”

Facing the grim prospect of either arriving fashionably late or missing the event entirely, they hopped into a hotel cab, “hoping for a miracle.” “20 minutes had passed and the cab had not moved at all. We were stuck in a traffic Tetris. We saw a metro station, seemed like a fair idea. The driver validated that,” she added. Adorned in lavish attire and heels, the group initially hesitated to embrace public transport. However, fueled by the bonds of friendship (and the urgency of the wedding), they took the plunge.

“This is what I love about Mumbai – nobody cared that we were a bunch of over dressed strangers running for our lives. The metro was crowded but people were kind, the AC kept our body and mind cool. After a little shouting, screaming and running we made it to the venue in 30 minutes! Cab+ Metro+ Auto saved the day. You gotta love Mumbai,” she concluded on a high note. Little did she foresee the backlash, as people scoffed at her for flaunting what they deemed a run-of-the-mill experience.

“You were wearing ethnic not a clown’s dress. Why would anyone react strangely even in any other mode of transportation in any other city?” queried one user. Another chimed in, “What weird logic is this, you can literally do this in any big Indian city.” The third scoffed, “Idk what’s so unique about Mumbai in this. I’ve travelled in the metros of Delhi, UP, Haryana and Bangalore. Nobody cared if there were over-dressed people running late for an event. Rather it’s a common occurrence.”

Some took their criticism to a sarcastic level. “In Chennai we make sure no one gets into the public transport well dressed esp with heels. If they do we’ll stop the train and make sure they’re thrown out. So you’re telling people to mind their own business in Mumbai?” teased one user. “Local gen z discovers public transport,” exclaimed another.
