'Cameron Green Has to Make Some Sacrifices to Keep Peaking in Test Cricket': Brad Haddin Advices RCB New Recruit to Miss IPL
Haddin pointed out that Australia pace trio Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc also missed out on a few IPL seasons to manage their workload to play in Test cricket.

Former Australia wicketkeeper Brad Haddin has advised the young all-rounder Cameron Green to miss the Indian Premier League to manage his workload. Green is touted as the next big thing in Australian cricket and Haddin feels that for him to peak in Test cricket, the youngster will have to make some sacrifices.

Green recently got traded to Royal Challengers Bangalore for the next season of Indian Premier League. He was bought by Mumbai Indians for a whopping Rs 17.50 crore in the IPL 2023 auction but was traded only after one season.

Haddin pointed out that Australia pace trio Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc also missed out on a few IPL seasons to manage their workload to play in Test cricket.

“If you look at the three fast bowlers (Cummins, Hazlewood, Starc) they have had periods where they have sat out of IPL and prioritized Test cricket and that’s something at times Cameron Green might have to do depending on his workload. I know IPL is a great way to keep learning, but if the workload gets too big, he will have to make some sacrifices to keep peaking in Test cricket,” Haddin said while speaking to Fox Cricket.

Green, 24-year-old, has already played 24 Test matches for Australia, while he played all 16 matches in IPL last season for Mumbai where he scored 452 runs and claimed 6 wickets.

The former Aussie wicketkeeper emphasised that Green has been travelling with the team for almost 6 months now which is tough for a young cricketer.

“If you look at his short career till date, I don’t think he will get as hard a period as he has got over the last 6-7 months. I think he spent the best part of six months away from home,” he added.

Haddin further advised the 24-year-old to sit back and reflect on his priorities as he is still young in international cricket.

“He is still only a young man finding his feet at international level. He will have a good opportunity now to sit back and reflect on that,” Haddin added.
