Assembly Elections 2023: The core group of the Bharatiya Janata Party is likely to meet on Thursday, October 19, to discuss the Rajasthan and Telangana elections. Congress, meanwhile, has dropped 18 MLAs out of total 83 tickets declared in Chhattisgarh.
In Mizoram, 23 candidates so far have submitted their nomination papers. More are likely to fill in their forms on Thursday and Friday. Twelve party candidates, including the incumbent deputy chief minister and one of the oldest, 80-year-old Tawnluia, filed their nomination papers.
In addition, four independent candidates and seven members of the Indian National Congress have also submitted their candidacy. The BJP and the Zoram People’s Movement, however, have yet not submitted their nominations.

• The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday released the names of 23 candidates, including the Speaker of the outgoing House and several others who joined the party from the ruling MNF recently, for the November 7 Mizoram assembly elections. Majority of the nominees are new faces, while four of these contestants are women. The last date for filing nominations is October 20.
