The hosts will be hoping that following the top order collapse against Australia, they can find their footing and go about business as usual once again, with their eyes set on the ultimate prize and the stakes higher than ever before.

Afghanistan will be coming off a heartbreaking loss against Bangladesh, which saw them crumble to the Tigers, and will be hoping to get off the mark with their first win in this World Cup campaign. But, they do realise that it will be no easy task in itself.

Afghanistan skipper Shahidi said, “We will bat first. It looks like a good batting surface. We have a good bowling attack to restrict them. It looks like a good surface, we want to bounce back with the bat. We are enjoying, good chance to showcase our talent. We are going with the same team”.

India’s Rohit Sharma said, “We were looking to bat second. We saw the amount of dew last evening. Don’t think the wicket will change much. Need to bowl well and need to come back and bat better. We were under pressure to start with, but KL and Kohli batted well, we take a lot of pride. It was a good game for us, hopefully we can repeat that and keep the momentum going forward. Ashwin misses out, Shardul Thakur comes in for him”.

Head to Head

India and Afghanistan have only met each other on three occasions in the ODI format. India have a clear advantage in those games, winning two times. The third game between the two was tied. Afghanistan will be heading into the fixture as they still look for their first ODI victory against the Men in Blue.
