Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday chaired a meeting with top BJP leaders from Jammu and Kashmir amid the buzz over Assembly elections in the union territory.

Besides BJP President Jagat Prakash Nadda and party’s J&K chief Ravinder Raina, LG Manoj Sinha was also present at Shah’s residence in the national capital for the meeting.

Among others who are attending the crucial meeting include former deputy chief Minister of J&K, Kavinder Gupta, Union Minister and Udhampur MP Jitendra Singh, Ashok Koul, Nirmal Singh, Devendra Maniyal, Jugal Kishore Sharma, Bibdoh Gupta, Sunil Sharma, Sat Paul Sharma and Shakti Parihar.

Commenting on the agenda of the meeting, Kavinder Gupta earlier told ANI that it is a regular meeting of the core group in which issues will be discussed and the focus is likely to be on impending polls.

Union minister Jitendra Singh earlier said that the BJP is ready for the elections and it is up to the EC to decide when the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly polls will be held.

Recently, the Election Commission had said that preparations have been done to conduct these elections in Jammu and Kashmir.

In 2019, the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir was bifurcated into two union territories– Jammu and Kashmir with Assembly and Ladakh– following the abrogation of Article 370 of the Constitution which gave special status to the region.
