And it was left-arm throwdown specialist Nuwan Seneviratne who gave Suryakumar the medal.

“Tirelessly working behind the stumps playing dual roles. But especially in the fielding, he has been my right shoulder, my everything.” India fielding coach T Dilip said while praising Nuwan.

Suryakumar was pleased with the award.

“He (Dilip) has been behind me for one year; finally, I think this is the reward,” he said.

India finished the league stage of the world cup with their ninth win in a row and thus enter the semi-finals unbeaten. The Rohit Sharma-led side will now gear up for the semi-final clash against New Zealand which will be played at the Wankhede Stadium on Wednesday.

This is the second time in a row that India and New Zealand will be locking horns at this stage of the competition. The two rivals met in the last-four stage of the 2019 edition when New Zealand registered an 18-run win in Manchester.

India posted a big total of 410/4 against the Netherlands before successfully defending it to win by 160 runs.

They experimented with their bowling in Bengaluru, using as many as nine different bowlers.

The likes of Virat Kohli, Rohit, Shubman Gill and Suryakumar rolled their arms over as well besides the five frontline bowlers.
