'Why I’m At the G20?' Rishi Sunak Lists UK Agenda for Mega Summit
British PM Rishi Sunak highlights global cooperation's importance at G20 Summit, addressing COVID lessons, climate change, and Russia conflict

As the G20 Leaders’ Summit begins Saturday in New Delhi, UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak underlined the significance of global cooperation in addressing pressing challenges that affect everyone around the world, including the British people. In a video shared on social media platform X, PM Sunak emphasised the need for countries to draw lessons from the COVID-19 pandemic and tackle climate change and address the ongoing Ukraine conflict.

He highlighted the G20 Summit as a unique platform for direct discussions with world leaders, stressing that the decisions made at such gatherings impact job creation, economic growth, and national security.

“Global issues matter. There are some things that we simply can’t do alone. Countries have to work together. We have seen this during covid, and it’s right that we come together to fight climate change and Putin’s illegal war. The G20 Summits can provide a unique opportunity to talk face-to-face with the leaders of other countries and address those issues. And the decisions we make there deliver the jobs, growth, and security that British people expect from their PM. I am looking forward to a productive few days,” Sunak said in a video posted on X amid G20.

On Friday, Rishi Sunak arrived in New Delhi. On the first day of his visit, he highlighted the huge success of India’s G20 Presidency.

“G20 has been a huge success for India. India is the right country at the right time to be hosting this,” Sunak was quoted as saying by news agency ANI. “Feel we will have a very good couple of days of deliberations and decisions made,” Sunak further added.

The Indian-origin British PM stated that he is keen to deepen and broaden UK-India ties. “The FTA is an obvious way for us to do that, which is why it remains our priority. I hope we can conclude a successful FTA,” Sunak said. He stressed that both London and New Delhi are eager to strengthen the security relationship.
