New Delhi: Nine Seemandhra MPs who gave their resignations following the decision on Telangana will meet Petroleum Minister Veerappa Moily on Thursday. Moily is part of a four-member committee set up by the Congress to address the Seemandhra MPs concerns.
The party High Command has, however, stated that there is no going back on the decision. The Congress had on Wednesday set up a four-member committee to address concerns of party MPs from Seemandhra region of Andhra Pradesh. The four-member committee includes Congress General Secretary Digvijaya Singh, Congress President Sonia Gandhi's political secretary Ahmed Patel, Petroleum Minister Veerappa Moily and Defence Minister AK Antony.
The unhappy Congress MPs from Seemandhra had on Tuesday met Sonia Gandhi urging her for a rethink on Telangana.
Congress ministers and MPs from Andhra Pradesh are protesting against the bifurcation of the state. The split emerged after the party high command hardened its stance, and said it will not go back on the decision.
A number of Congress MPs from Seemandhra and Rayalaseema had decided to resign after the decision on Telangana was taken. The talk in the party is that central leadership is keen that Andhra ministers do not press with their resignation.
On Saturday, defiant state Congress leaders from Andhra and Rayalaseema regions upped their ante by adopting three resolutions one of which demanded reconsideration of Telangana decision and asking CM N Kiran Kumar Reddy to quit. The MPs also launched a protest in Parliament by raising slogans of united Andhra and reconsideration of the decision.
