After 44 deaths in 2 years, Digvijaya seeks SC-monitored CBI probe into Vyapam scam
Refusing to order a probe by the CBI into the deaths, Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Babu Lal Gaur claimed that the deaths have no connection to the Vyapam scam.

After 44 deaths in two years in the mysterious Vyapam scam, Congress general secretary Digvijaya Singh has now sought a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe under the monitoring of Supreme Court.

The Congress leader filed a petition in the apex court, seeking an SC-monitored CBI investigation into the Vyapam scam, which has snowballed into a huge mystery.

This comes on a day when the death of another suspect, Amit Sagar, came to light.

Amit Sagar, who was a veterinary student in Mhow, was found dead in a pond in Sheopur district of the state in February in 2015.

He was named by prime accused in the case Indrajeet Bhushan who hails from Bihar. Bhushan was arrested by police as a mastermind in the PMT paper leak. During interrogation in May, Indrajeet revealed Amit's name. When police tried to contact Amit, it was found that he was already dead.

This is reportedly the 44th death in connection with Vyapam scam. The Special Investigating Team (SIT) probing the scandal had submitted to the MP High Court that 23 deceased in the MPPEB scam had died unnatural deaths so far.

Refusing to order a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into the deaths, Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Babu Lal Gaur claimed that the deaths have no connection to the Vyapam scam.

The most high-profile death in connected with case has been been that of Shailesh Yadav, son of Madhya Pradesh Governor Ram Naresh Yadav. Shailesh (50) was found dead at his father's residence in Mall Avenue area of Uttar Pradesh capital Lucknow on March 25 in 2015.

Ram Naresh Yadav, a former chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, was also made an accused in the MPPEB scam before getting relief from the court.

Several politicians, including former Education Minister Laxmikant Sharma, a host of officials and scores of aspirants have been arrested in the case. Congress has even accused Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan of complicity in the scam.
