Nand Gopal Gupta Nandi of BJP has won constituency No. 263 of Uttar Pradesh legislative Assembly.
The main candidates from Allahabad South were Masooq Khan (BSP), Nand Gopal Gupta Nandi (BJP), Amir Hbib (CPI), Arunesh Jaiswal (RLD), Gaurav Pandey (SHS), Parvez Ahmad (SP).
Samajwadi Party (SP) has won the seat both in 2012 and 2014.
In the 2012 Assembly elections, the Samajwadi Party (SP) defeated its nearest contender, the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), by a slim margin of just 414 votes to win this constituency. Haji Parvej Ahmad (Tanki), the winning Samajwadi Party candidate, got 43,040 votes. BSP candidate Nand Gopal Gupta Nandi, who got 42,626 votes, was the runner-up. The voter turnout was a lowly 45.05 %.
The ruling Samajwadi Party (SP) in Uttar Pardesh had in 2012 won 224 seats spread across 75 districts. It has tied-up with Congress this time in the contest against BJP and BSP.
Elections to 403 seats of Uttar Pradesh were held over 7 phases from February 4 to March 8.
Exit polls had predicted the BJP emerging first in Uttar Pradesh with the Samajwadi Party- Congress alliance emerging second and Mayawati's Bahujan Samaj Party emerging a distant third.
