Centre asks states to maximise security for all political rallies
MHA has instructed the state governments that in the aftermath of Patna serial bomb blasts maximum security be provided to major political rallies.

New Delhi: The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has issued an advisory to all states to maximise the security for important political leaders. It has instructed the state governments that in the aftermath of Patna serial bomb blasts maximum security be provided to major political rallies.

"In the heightened political atmosphere and communally sensitive situation in some parts of the country all district and state administration should take all precautions possible to avoid any untoward incidents. And if any clarification is needed regarding the issue, further clarification be sought from the Centre," the advisory says.

This advisory comes after a spat between Bihar and Gujarat police on Advanced Security Liasion (ASL). The ASL is basically a security drill for maximum security to Z+ category protectees, which Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi is entitled for.

The Bihar police refused to provide the ASL on the grounds that the MHA has not authorised this for Modi. The latest advisory from the MHA says that the ASL should be provided if the threat assessment demands it.

Bharatiya Janata Party's prime ministerial candidate Hunkar rally in Patna was preceded by a series of blasts, most of which took place around Gandhi Maidan which was the venue for the rally. Six people were killed and over 80 others were injured in the blasts.
