Cong demands sacking of Nishank govt
The Congress claimed its stand had been vindicated by U'khand HC's decision to cancel the housing project order in Rishikesh.

Dehradun: The Congress on Tuesday claimed its stand had been vindicated by Uttarakhand High Court's decision to cancel the order allowing a housing project in Rishikesh by changing the land use pattern and demanded the sacking of BJP government for the alleged irregularities.

Hitting back at the opposition, the BJP government claimed that the High Court verdict had not only given a clean chit to it and Chief Minister Ramesh Pokhariyal Nishank but had also proved that the allegations levelled by the Opposition parties were "politically motivated".

Leader of Opposition in state assembly Harak Singh Rawat said the verdict has proved that the allegations of corruption and irregularities against the BJP government were true.

"I urge Governor Margaret Alva to dismiss Ramesh Pokhariyal Nishank government as the court's order has proved that the allegations against it are correct," the Congress leader said.

The issue of change of land use pattern of 30 acres of land of Citurgia Biochemicals, a sick industrial unit at Rishikesh, sparked a controversy in March this year with the opposition led by Congress disrupting the assembly proceedings accusing Nishank of giving undue favour to Sturdia Developers in violation of laws and demanding a CBI inquiry.

Chairman of BJP's State Media Advisory Committee Devendra Bhasin today said the state government's direction was based on a decision by the previous Congress government

led by N D Tiwari which said the order of Board for Industrial and Financial Reconstruction (BIFR) was binding on the government.

And the court has cancelled the subsequent decisions taken on the basis of the Congress government's decision, he said, adding the allegations against the present state government and its Chief Minister were baseless and wrong.

"The allegations were guided by sheer ill-will and were politically motivated," he added

Rejecting the demand for a CBI probe, Uttarakhand government had maintained that the land use pattern was changed as per the recommendations of BIFR.
