Chandigarh: Congress on Friday demanded resignation of Punjab Agriculture minister Tota Singh, accusing him of being involved in the supply of spurious insecticides to farmers that led to massive damage to the cotton crop and losses to the growers.
He said the removal of state agriculture director from his post was just an "eyewash". "The director is a small fish in the big scheme of things of the government", Amarinder said in a statement issued here.
The former Chief Minister said while the director agriculture may have a role in the alleged purchase of the spurious pesticides, but the overall responsibility is that of the agriculture minister who must resign immediately.
"You can't escape the responsibility by putting the entire onus on one particular officer", he observed. Lok Sabha MP warned that 2017 was not that far when the new government would investigate the matter and ensure that all the culprits in the spurious pesticide scam including Tota Singh, are brought to book and put behind the bars.
Yesterday, Punjab government removed Director Agriculture after opposition party Congress alleged that he had purchased "spurious" insecticide which failed to control whitefly attack on cotton crop.
