Hassan (Karnataka): Former prime minister H D Deve Gowda, living up to his billing of 'son of the soil', has declared his total assets at little under Rs 50 lakh, which included a 1974 Ambassador car.
In his affidavit filed along with his nomination papers for his traditional Hassan Lok Sabha Seat, he said his top investment had been in the unlisted Chennambika Enterprises, a Kannada Film Production House, amounting to Rs 20.64 lakh.
Otherwise, he had other assets, including agricultural land worth Rs 17.59 lakh and a bank balance of Rs 5.3 lakh.
For the Ambassador car, Gowda puts the present value at Rs 15,000.
However, he also owns another car of 2004 make valued at Rs 4.80 lakh.
Incidentally, Gowda's son and former Karnataka chief minister H D Kumaraswamy and his wife Anita were worth Rs 40 crore, according to their declaration to election officials.
Kumaraswamy, a film producer having other business interests, is now contesting from Bangalore Rural segment.
Gowda has two more sons -- H D Revanna who had been a former state minister and H D Balakrishna, a Karnataka administrative services official who opted for an early retirement.
