DMK chief Karunanidhi says reshuffle not over
The party did not seek replacements for former Cabinet ministers A Raja and Dayanidhi Maran.

New Delhi: DMK chief M Karunanidhi says the reshuffle carried out by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is not over and the party will decide on its nominees after its General Council meeting on July 23. The party did not seek replacements for former telecom minister A Raja and former textiles minister Dayanidhi Maran.

"The reshuffle is not complete yet! Will comment on it after it is formally announced! We did not ask for any replacement portfolios from Pranab Mukherjee. We will decide on all issues relating to the Centre and ministries in our general council meeting," said Karunanidhi in Chennai on Tuesday.

Karunaidhi was reacting after Prime Minister Manmohan Singh wrote to President Pratibha Patil recommended the changes in the Union Council of Ministers.

Raja and Maran were forced to resign from the Union Cabinet following allegations of corruption against them.

While Raja was forced to quit as the telecom minister after he was reported to be involved in the 2G spectrum scam, Maran resigned after allegations were levelled against him that he arm-twisted Aircel owner C Sivasankarn to sell his 74 per cent stake to Maxis group of Malaysia.

The Prime Minister carried out the reshuffle bringing in eight new faces in the Union Council of Ministers including four in the Cabinet. He also dropped seven ministers from the Union Council of Ministers.
