New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday lashed out at Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi over the misrepresentation of facts regarding police atrocities in Bhatta and Parsaul villages.
Critisising Rahul, BJP spokesperson Syed Shahnawaz Hussain said the youth leader should check his facts before making any statements.
"Rahul Gandhi should speak only after thoroughly checking the facts," said Shahnawaz Hussain.
Shahnawaz Hussain also attacked Rahul by alleging the he has defamed women of the village.
"There were atrocities in Bhatta-Parsaul, but Rahul Gandhi had no rights to defame the women of the village by saying they were raped. He should have thoroughly checked facts before making statements," said Shahnawaz Hussain.
On Monday, Rahul Gandhi met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on the issue of police atrocities in the Bhatta and Parsaul villages and produced some pictures, which according to him, depict the reality that many farmers were killed, women raped and several still missing. It's a far cry from the Uttar Pradesh government's claims of death of only three farmers and that the situation now under control. And to prove his version of reality, Rahul took a delegation eight farmers to meet the Prime Minister.
"The issue here is a more fundamental one with regard to these villages in particular and a large number of villages in UP all down the Agra highway, where state repression is being used, where people are being murdered. Quite severe atrocities taking place there. There is a large set of heaps of ash there with dead bodies inside. Everybody in the village knows it. We can give you pictures. Women have been raped, people have been thrashed. Houses have been destroyed. Several people have been injured," said Rahul Gandhi.
