New Delhi: After making waves in his home state Gujarat, Hardik Patel, the third most visible face in the ongoing election campaign after Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Congress President-elect Rahul Gandhi, now has the 2019 general elections on his mind. Talking to News18 during his campaign in Ahmedabad, Patel also did not rule out possibilities of him joining the Congress.
Speaking to News18 while campaigning in Ahmedabad, Patel to several questions about his next political move after the Assembly polls, had only one answer, “Dedh saal baad [after one-and-a-half years].”
News18 asked Hardik Patel, who has spearheaded a very personal and bitter battle with the ruling BJP, several questions — will he join Congress, what sort of a leadership role was he looking forward to assuming after polls, etc. To all these questions Patel responded with, “Dedh saal baad decide karunga. Abhi samay hai. [I’ll decide after two-and-a-half years. There’s time]”, clearly indicating his interest in playing a larger role in 2019 general elections due in April 2019.
News18 also asked Patel about how he had emerged as a direct challenger to the ruling BJP government and the agenda that was driving him. To this he responded by saying, “I’m just doing my work. People are connecting by themselves with me. I have just one agenda — that of asking for my rights.”
Hardik Patel, 24-year-old chief of Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti has led a bitter campaign unperturbed after a CD showing him sharing private moments with a person, which was released purportedly to defame him. Interestingly, Patel has continued to attract huge audiences in his rallies across the state and has now become the face of the public resentment.
