Rewari: Haryana's Rewari constituency has been a Congress stronghold for over 20 years. Congress MLA Captain Ajay Singh Yadav has represented Rewari since 1991 and remains the frontrunner in the forthcoming Assembly elections on October 15.
With such experience and following, having chief ministerial ambitions is no surprise. Speaking to IBNLive, Captain Singh, popularly known as 'Captain Sahab' throughout Rewari, said, "I personally feel that the Chief Minister of Haryana must change if the Congress comes to power again. I have been the MLA from the same constituency for six terms. I qualify for the post. But it is the party high command which takes such decisions."
Captain Singh has not been on good terms with Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda and had even quit the Hooda government accusing it of ignoring Rewari. "Rewari was ignored in terms of job opportunities. I had put my concern to the high command and had quit the Hooda government in protest," he said.
Captain Singh also claimed that he was approached by the Bharatiya Janata Party, but he chose to remain with the Congress. "I have been a loyal Congressman all my life. I was approached by the BJP, but I have decided never to leave the Congress," said the former Army officer.
His loyalists in Rewari, however, say that even if Captain Singh joins another party, they will vote for him. They say that in Rewari, it is about the person who works and not the party.
