Lucknow: Hindu saints have thrown their weight behind Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Varun Gandhi, accused of giving hate speeches in Pilibhit, the constituency he is testing electoral waters in the General Elections, saying, ''this Gandhi has wiped out the kalank (blot) of his ancestors by raising the issues of his community and Hindutava.''
''This is a difference between two young Gandhis -- one born to foreign woman while another to an Indian one. It is the Indian blood that is craving for Hindutava. The entire sant samaj (community of saints) is with Varun and anybody raising a finger at this tarun (young) man would be taught a lesson in the battle of ballots,'' Gyan Das, National Convener of the Dharam Raksha Manch, said addressing the Dharam Sabha in Lucknow on Tuesday.
Varun is at the centre of a political storm for allegedly making hate speeches. He has, however, denied giving such speeches, claiming the said CD was ''doctored''.
The saints, associated with the Vishwa Hindu Parishad and different akharas of Ayodhya, are taking out Dharam Raksha Yatra which reached the state capital after touring eastern Uttar Pradesh and parts of Bihar.
Without naming the BJP, they asked people and Hindus in particular to vote for the party that promises to build Ram Temple in Ayodhya, implements POTA and ensures capital punishment to Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru - all the issues close to the saffron party.
The star speaker Sadhvi Rithambra said even after 62 years of Independence, the common man in the country is still in search of his values. "We have lost our morality in this mad rush of earning livelihood. And in this melee, our society got divided into different castes and creed. The time has come for the Hindus to unite by breaking the barriers of caste so that we can elect our own government," she said in her inimitable style.
''This time the Lok Sabha should wear a saffron chola (hue) so that we could construct Ram Temple in Ayodhya,'' she said.
The sants asked the people to shed their lethargy and use their right of franchise on the voting day. "Ensure 100 per cent voting. Use your right to elect a government of your own choice," Kamlnayan, another saint, said.
